I have not posted here in a long time, because frankly, life kind of sucks right now.
Bottom line is that I was laid off my job.
Those who know me know that I am a consultant who works for a company called CSC. And my client right now is Kroger, where I actually enjoy working.
For most of the summer, Kroger has been trying to get me over into a new department. I was even told that this would probably lead to a job offer from them which I would have gladly accepted.
So last week, I got the call that CSC was going to lay me off. This comes from their contractual obligation to reduce their head count at Kroger by 1 person each year. Since I'm at the end of my project, it makes the most sense to get rid of me.
And despite how much Kroger has said they wanted to hire me, they do not have the head count right now.
Oh, and CSC doesn't seem to need me at any other client, so they are showing me the door.
Blah!
So for now, I am still working. My lay off doesn't go into effect until September 19th. So I do have some time.
So if anyone out there in the Cincinnati area needs a Business Analyst / Project Leader, please let me know.
Otherwise, please keep good thoughts for me. My dog has grown used to eating and needs me to work to buy her food.
We have officially announce our season for next year
The Boys Next Door by Tom Griffin October 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 Falcon presents this beloved play about four mentally challenged men living in a group home. Through these simple but extraordinary human beings and the social worker who cares for them, we catch glimpses of the insecurities and common desires present in ourselves every day. At times hysterically funny and at others incredibly touching, this play begins our season on a truly high note.
It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Drama by Anthony Palermo December 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 Return with us to the wonderful home town of George Bailey as he and the residents of Bedford Falls come to life through the magic of radio. It's 1945 and you are in the studio audience of a live radio broadcast as the actors present the holiday classic for "Mr. and Mrs. America and all the ships at sea".
Hamlet by William Shakespeare February 20, 21, 27, 28 and March 6, 7 Join us as we bring the shadowed halls and imposing parapets of Elsinore Castle to life on our stage. The Dark Dane contemplates that timeless question: "To be or not to be", in our classic presentation of what is arguably the greatest play ever written.
Poseidon: The Upside-Down Musical by David Cerda May 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16 A rogue wave, a cruise ship full of innocent souls, and a bunch of spirited musical numbers! That's right...the classic disaster film has been adapted for the stage and since we can't afford to flood the theater and sink a boat, we decided to add music and dance numbers to tell the story. All your favorite passengers are here and they're tap dancing their way to the bottom of the sea for your entertainment.
The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler June 12, 13, 19, 20 (4th Wall) This incredibly popular show toured the country for years because of it's fresh, straight-forward approach to women and their sexuality. Falcon will be presenting this award-winning play as the inaugural event in our "Falcon Gives Back" series which celebrates our own success by raising money for a worthy charity.
We just got back from seeing the tour of Jersey Boys.
All I can say is WOW. I loved this show.
If you are in Cincinnati and haven't seen this show yet, I suggest you run down and grab tickets now!! It is only in town one more day!
The production is directed by Des McAnuff, a director that I just adore! He directed the stage version of Tommy from a few years back that I thought was just brilliant!
So we are trying to redo our office. So we went today to buy new desks at IKEA. We found exactly what we wanted and put together our list of what we needed.
Well, our sales guy looked up everything in the computer and learned that they were out of the basic frames that we needed. We wanted 2, and the computer said they only had 1. And when he called downstairs to check, someone looked and couldn't even find the 1.
So we were pretty defeated and disappointed. We really wanted to buy them today.
So on our own, we went down to the warehouse and checked for ourselves. And there in the bin sat not just 1, but actually the 2 frames that we need.
So now we are the proud owners of 2 new desks! Whoo Hoo for us!
Love it or hate it, the SEX AND THE CITY movie came out last night.
We ventured down to see it. And I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm going to say that without a doubt, this is the best movie I've seen all year.
It was funny, touching, clever, everything that a movie should be. It is also thrilling for me to see a movie hit this kind of blockbuster status without feeling that it is geared towards 12 year old boys.
Every showing was sold out last night. And the usher even said that he hadn't seen crowds like this since the Hannah Montana movie.
I'm pretty sure that everyone in the crowd, (including us) had a few required cosmos before entering the theater.
I'm ready to see this again! I never feel this way about a movie, but I think I'd really like to pay again to see it in the theater. It was that good.
My mother isn't one to let grass grow under her feet.
Since my father passed away in December, she has been wanting to get out of her house. Well, last week, she decided to put her house up for sale. By the third day, she had an offer. By the forth day, she had sold it!
Then she got on a plane and bought a house in Florida.
I don't mind her living so far away. And she will be living in the same town as my sister, so she will have someone close by.
So here's to my mom. The newest retiree to move to Florida.
